SAT

The SAT is a 3-hour exam that consists of 4 sections:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Math (No Calculator)
  • Math (Calculator)

The Reading and Writing sections are scored together, as are the two math sections. The highest possible score in each section is an 800 for a total score of 1600.

The SAT focuses more on critical thinking and reasoning skills than does the ACT. It also tests math twice rather than once. As such, students with stronger math skills and stellar reading-comprehension skills, as well as those who struggle with time management, might fare better with the SAT than with the ACT.
